After a few weeks of research, I noticed one unexplored possibility that I could not find any speculation or research on. There are many different and diverse speculative theories on the explanation for dark matter. Scientists are convinced that dark matter is real, because they can circumstantially infer it’s existence by detecting it’s gravitational effect on the visible part of the Universe. So far, nobody has ever detected the actual ‘dark matter.’ The theories include massive black holes at the centers of galaxies, massive dark stars at the edges of galaxies, interstellar dust, or exotic material such as Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (a particle designed to bridge the mathematical gaps in other particle theories for the explanation of dark mater). Un-countable billions of dollars have been spent to build machines and equipment designed to detect theoretical particles. The success of these projects is very dubious.

The one un-explored possibility that was absent in all the theories, happens to be the one that does not require any machines or experiments or satellite launches or hundreds and thousands of scientists and technicians and astronomers working all around the world, with a guarantee of decades of future research and economic security ahead of them.

The one un-touched theory is this: perhaps the dark matter can’t be detected because it does not actually exist. Perhaps the motions of objects in the sky have another explanation that does not require any ‘dark matter’ at all.

A theory that does not include ‘dark matter,’ would not require any particle detection equipment or experimentation. There would be no reason to apply to the National Science Foundation for a grant to conduct experiments that might detect extra invisible spatial dimensions. Scientists and technicians would get laid off and be out of work. The project to launch satellites to detect gravity waves from colliding black holes would lose funding.

A theory that does not rely on ‘dark matter’ could simply use the current data that has already been gathered to verify the theory. No further endeavors to detect anything would be necessary, as the data would show that there is nothing there to detect. The only experiments necessary would be thought experiments. The only equipment necessary would be pencils and paper, maybe a chalk board, pocket calculators and access to the accumulation of data. And some Human brains.

Thought experiments don’t cost very much. They only require the time it takes to fully understand them. If you don’t already know exactly what a thought experiment is, go the links page and click on ‘What Is A Thought Experiment?’ A thought experiment is a way of using the imagination in conjuction with proven laws of physics and nature in order to pre-determine the outcome of a real situation or experiment. Thought experiments have been around for all of history. Often, a thought experiment is beyond our technological means to duplicate physically, and often, a physical duplication would be completely unnecessary anyway. Sometimes, a physical experiment can be devised and conducted so that it’s result will either verify or disprove the outcome of a thought experiment, without having to duplicate the precise physical conditions of the thought experiment itself.

Galileo, Newton, and Einstein all used thought experiments to help search out the physical laws of nature that they established rules and laws for. Most of these thought experiments are backed up with physical experiments. This is where we will find the answer to the dark matter mystery.
